What You Need to Get Started
This is part of a series of blog post that I wrote for my family, friends and anyone who wants to learn how to sell on eBay. For a complete list of the series check out CATEGORIES in the right side bar. You will see “Getting Started on eBay,” 01- What You Need to Get Started through 14 – Common Abbreviations/Acronyms. eBay recently made some changes that will take effect in September and October, I will be updating some of the post to reflect the changes. If you are an experienced eBayer and you see something that needs to be changed, check back in a few days and if it has not been changed please leave a comment. Thanks!
Okay, let get started. Here is a list of things you will need:
-
computer with a high-speed Internet connection
-
printer
-
digital camera
-
Items to sell. Go through your home and find some unwanted items to list, that is how a lot of people get started, and don’t think nobody wants this old thing, believe me someone probably wants it. Do your research first.
-
Measuring tape
-
Shipping materials (packing peanuts, shipping tape, bubble wrap, clean sturdy boxes, and bubble envelopes) and a postal scale. You can do without a postal scale, but then you will have to spend a lot of time at the Post Office and you may not be able to include your shipping cost in your auction listing. Having a postal scale will save you a lot of time in the long run.
-
A work area. If possible, create a separate work area in a room that no one else is using. You will need this room to maintain your inventory. The larger the room the better because you can believe me when I say this room will fill up very quickly.
-
Stainless steel or chrome plated wire shelves work well for holding inventory; however, they can be a little costly when you are just starting. If you are unable to create adequate space in your residence, you will need to locate a place that is close by to store your inventory.
-
Establishing a separate email account just for eBay is a good idea, but it is not a requirement. As an alternative, you can setup an eBay folder in your regular email account. You can sort your incoming email to automatically place all eBay related mail into your eBay folder.
Did I forget anything?
